Bio
Chivona Renee Newsome, the Co-Founder of Black Lives Matter Greater NY and former Candidate for US Congress (NY15), a civil rights leader at the forefront of the New Civil Rights Movement and former Financial Advisor at New York Life. She has dedicated her adult life to the betterment of her community & our nation as a whole.
Over the past few years, Chivona has worked tirelessly leading protests and seeking justice for the families of police brutality, she works with members of LGBT community, victims of human trafficking, the mental health community, women’s reproductive rights organizations, and housing justice advocates. She co-founded Black Lives Caucus, Black Opportunities, lectured students, and expanded Black Lives Matter Greater NY to multiple New York City charter schools.
It’s important to recognize that black women often face insurmountable challenges in corporate America, ranging from pay equity issues to inadequate salary raises to imbalanced promotions and hiring and firings.
About
These sessions are designed to share tools that address the experiences of our black community, in hopes of bridging existing gaps between the historical precedent and current calls to action. These interactive sessions are meant to foster dialogue, communication, and self-reflection to build a deeper understanding and develop the strength and power needed to combat anti-blackness and prevent it from perpetuating racism and ignorance.
This workshop is designed for the Black Community, about the Black Community in efforts to break down Anti-Blackness structures and re-embrace the spiritual side within to utilize in our daily lives. No previous experience is required.
This partnership was created to promote the ASCENDtials Healing Session on KOSMelaninology™ and Developing Self-Awareness, a campaign designed with the intention of supporting black women in Corporate America and beyond.
This event supports ASCENDtials in its mission to bring awareness of oppressive structures in place, in its efforts to dismantle them by developing higher-level problem-solving skills. Our aim is to address and create systems for the good of humanity based on the science of science by applying the Knowledge of Self to grow, sustain, balance, and to secure Equity for all.
