About the MAD

Definition: MAD stands for "Maintenance Assessment District."
Mission: To enhance the vitality, visibility, and equity of the Marina District through beautification, marketing, and business support.
Vision: A vibrant, inclusive waterfront neighborhood where businesses thrive, public spaces inspire, and community connections flourish.

Your Role as a Board Member

As a board member, you’ll help guide the MAD’s priorities, ensure fiscal responsibility, and represent the voices of our diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities Include:

• Approving budgets and work plans
• Advising on marketing, beautification, and business support initiatives
• Attending quarterly meetings and participating in committees
• Engaging with community members and fellow business owners

About the MDBA

The Marina District Business Association (MDBA) is a community group, working toward recognition as a Maintenance Assessment District (MAD).

The MDBA is dedicated to supporting local businesses, residents, and cultural initiatives in the Marina District. Our work includes:

• Signature Events like the Kettner Block Party
• ASCENDtials Farmers’ Markets vendor pathways
• Weekly Market Workshops (Yoga, Tai Chi, Cooking, Gardening, and more) led by certified instructors
• Marina District Yacht Club (MDYC) — our first venture, connecting the community to the waterfront through stewardship, education, and recreation
